Welcome to Red Beanbag!
Red Beanbag is an independent Malaysian cafe and coffee roastery with deep roots in the Australian cafe culture. We first opened in Publika, Kuala Lumpur, way back in 2011 with the dream of bringing the Aussie brunch experience to our beloved home city.
In the decade since then, our passion for specialty coffee, good food and family-focused service has only grown, and our new home at Menara Mudajaya, Mutiara Damansara (just a stone's throw from IPC and The Curve) has allowed us to make our dreams for a true community-based cafe that serves the needs to families, particularly parents and young children, in the context of 21st-century urban needs and ideals. Especially since the pandemic, we work, play, live, learn, and teach in the same space -- and often a whole lot more. Serving these needs and being a relevant part of this community is what continues to inspire us in everything we do--bringing the best that we can offer to all who walk through our doors!
Red Beanbag has been around for more than 10 years, which is quite a long time for a KL café. In that time, we have had the honour and privilege of serving customers from all walks of life who share a passion for good food, good coffee, and belonging to a community.
From my days as a student at Melbourne University to today, these things are still the most important to me because they are about us as people. Whether you look at it from largest or smallest perspective, we share this life, this planet and this time on Earth together: friends, family, people, the community around us. For me, RBB is all about bringing people together. And now in our new home, we’re really looking forward to doing more of this through even better food, the best coffee we can make—and we have our own roastery now, run by a hyper-passionate and dedicated new generation of coffee professionals—and above all, being a comforting place for all. You’re a stranger at RBB only once. After that, you’re family.

I'm an architect by training, but life brought me to F&B, music (I play baroque and modern violin) and, more recently, I've been slowly adapting to my role as a new mum. Nothing prepares you for parenthood, but I've been very lucky to have been able to use all my training and experience to create a space here at RBB for families, kids, and new parents like me who are fighting - and sometimes struggling - to create a balance between family and work in the kind of world we live in today.
In the process of building the new RBB, we've also been super lucky to have been able to connect with a lot of other folks who are trying to make a difference in this world, in their own way. I truly believe that when we stay true to what we believe in - and fight for it if needed - well, that's when the magic really happens.
Whether you're new to RBB or an old friend from our days at Publika, I bid you a warm welcome home.
